Rezulin
Please Note: The pharmaceutical liability attorneys at the James Esparaza law firm have represented countless clients in the Utah area who have been harmed by dangerous drugs, and we can help you, too. However, at this time, we are only accepting pharmaceutical liability cases for the following drugs: Levaquin, Yaz and Yasmin, and Transvaginal Mesh Patches. The link here indicates the drug cases we are no longer accepting so that we may focus our time and resources on victims who have been harmed by Levaquin, Yaz/Yasmin and the Transvaginal patches.
As the first and only Utah lawyer to file Rezulin cases in the State of Utah, James Esparza is the right attorney to represent you if you have suffered from the side effects of Rezulin.
Rezulin® (troglitazone) is a "fast track" drug prescribed for Type 2 Diabetes. “Fast track” means that it went through a quicker than normal approval process at the FDA. In fact, it was the most quickly approved diabetes drug in history.
Unfortunately, once it was on the market, reports started coming in that high numbers of patients were suffering from liver failure as a result of the drug.
Estimated to have generated almost two billion dollars in sales for the drug manufacturer (Parke-Davis division of Warner-Lambert), at last count, 63 reported deaths were attributed to Rezulin, with estimates that the actual number of deaths is likely significantly higher.
The FDA's leading specialist in evaluating and preventing prescription drug deaths, estimated that one out of every 1,800 Rezulin patients could be expected to suffer liver failure
Rezulin was banned in England in 1997 after the first death attributed to the drug, but it was not withdrawn from the U.S. market until March of 2000 – 27 months later!
When it was finally banned in 2000, the FDA stated that the "continued use of Rezulin" posed an "unacceptable risk" to diabetes patients.
