Please Note: The pharmaceutical liability attorneys at the James Esparaza law firm have represented countless clients in the Utah area who have been harmed by dangerous drugs, and we can help you, too. However, at this time, we are only accepting pharmaceutical liability cases for the following drugs: Levaquin, Yaz and Yasmin, and Transvaginal Mesh Patches. The link here indicates the drug cases we are no longer accepting so that we may focus our time and resources on victims who have been harmed by Levaquin, Yaz/Yasmin and the Transvaginal patches.
Permax (pergolide mesylate) is a prescription medication used to treat tremors caused by Parkinson’s Disease and for restless leg syndrome (jumping restless legs).
Manufactured by Eli Lilly and available since 1988, a potentially life-threatening side effect of the drug was discovered in December of 2002, which seemed to indicate that Permax damaged heart valves, causing a condition known as cardiac valvulopathy or valvular heart disease. As a result of their findings, The famed Mayo Clinic recommend that all Permax patients undergo heart tests and that certain patients be taken off the drug.
Heart valve damage may not be obvious to an individual, but doctors will be able to discover if there is a problem by the presence of heart murmurs. Other symptoms of heart damage include chest pain, foot and ankle swelling and shortness of breath.
In addition to the heart disease link, other Permax side effects include involuntary spasms, dizziness, nausea and chest pain, hallucinations, difficulty sleeping or staying awake and digestive problems.
If you or someone you know is taking Permax, we recommend that you see a doctor immediately. HOWEVER, do not stop taking Permax suddenly — it may cause withdrawal symptoms such as confusion and hallucinations. Instead, talk to your doctor about tapering off gradually.
