Please Note: The pharmaceutical liability attorneys at the James Esparaza law firm have represented countless clients in the Utah area who have been harmed by dangerous drugs, and we can help you, too. However, at this time, we are only accepting pharmaceutical liability cases for the following drugs: Levaquin, Yaz and Yasmin, and Transvaginal Mesh Patches. The link here indicates the drug cases we are no longer accepting so that we may focus our time and resources on victims who have been harmed by Levaquin, Yaz/Yasmin and the Transvaginal patches.
Paxil is the brand name of the drug Paroxetine, which is produced and marketed by drug manufacturer Glaxo SmithKline Corporation (formerly known as SmithKline Beecham).
Paxil is used to treat depression, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and social phobias. Like Prozac and other popular anti-depressants, Paxil is an SSRI drug that works by affecting levels of serotonin in the brain. It is the ninth best selling drug in the U.S. and has been on the market since 1992.
Although Paxil has helped numerous people, adverse reactions to Paxil can be serious and severe in terms of both the Side Effects while on the drug and the Withdrawal Symptoms when getting off the drug.
The most dramatic adverse effects include murder and suicide, in a reaction known as akathisia, which causes patients to commit acts of violence toward themselves and others. The family of Donald Schell, who killed three people and himself while taking Paxil, won an eight million dollar lawsuit against Glaxo SmithKline.
Murder and suicide are only the most dramatic reactions, among many others. For a comprehensive list of Paxil Side Effects, please click here. For a list of Withdrawal Symptoms, please click here.
Complaints and lawsuits allege that patients and physicians were unaware of the side effects and withdrawal reactions because of the manufacturer’s deliberate failure to warn people about these occurrences, and that users were not aware of Paxil’s addictive properties, serious side effects and withdrawal reactions.
