Ortho Evra Patch Side Effects
Please Note: The pharmaceutical liability attorneys at the James Esparaza law firm have represented countless clients in the Utah area who have been harmed by dangerous drugs, and we can help you, too. However, at this time, we are only accepting pharmaceutical liability cases for the following drugs: Levaquin, Yaz and Yasmin, and Transvaginal Mesh Patches. The link here indicates the drug cases we are no longer accepting so that we may focus our time and resources on victims who have been harmed by Levaquin, Yaz/Yasmin and the Transvaginal patches.
The Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch is a contraceptive that women wear on the skin, which releases estrogen and progestin hormones into the blood stream, stopping the menstrual cycle.
Often referred to as the "birth control band aid," since the Ortho Evra Patch was approved in November 2001 and released to the public in 2002, over 5 million women world wide have used the Ortho Evra Patch as an alternative to oral contraceptives.
Unlike oral contraceptives, which are taken in pill form once a day, the Ortho Evra Patch is used by wearing a patch on the skin for an entire week for three weeks straight, and not wearing the patch every fourth week. The Ortho Evra Patch releases a constant level of estrogen and progestin into the body, whereas oral contraceptives provide a once-daily dose.
Recently, the Ortho Evra Patch and the constant level of hormones it releases into the body has been linked to serious thrombotic problems, including:
- Stroke
- Blood Clots
- Heat Attack
- Pulmonary Embolism
- Myocardial Infarction
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
In order to work as a contraceptive, both the Ortho Evra Patch and oral contraceptives must increase the amount of estrogen and progestin in the body. However, too much of either of these hormones can cause the serious medical problems listed above.
The reason the Ortho Evra Patch has been linked to these serious medical problems is because the Ortho Evra Patch saturates the user's blood with too much hormones. In response to these dangerous risks, the makers of the Ortho Evra Patch, Johnson & Johnson, have issued a warning about the dangerous hormones.
You may be able to recover compensation from Johnson & Johnson for your losses if you have:
- Taken oral contraceptives for an extended period of time without incident prior to using the Ortho Evra Patch.
- An Ortho Evra Patch prescription
- Suffered a serious medical incident like stroke, heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or blood clot.
- Had to visit the hospital for a long period of time in response to the medical incident.
- Been forced to undergo surgery.
- Been forced to undergo coagulant therapy for at least six months.
If you have suffered medical problems and unnecessary treatments as a result of taking the Ortho Evra Patch, contact the personal injury attorneys at the James Esparza Law Firm of Salt Lake City, Utah. Our Birth Control Patch attorneys will evaluate your claim and help you recover compensation.
