Please Note: The pharmaceutical liability attorneys at the James Esparaza law firm have represented countless clients in the Utah area who have been harmed by dangerous drugs, and we can help you, too. However, at this time, we are only accepting pharmaceutical liability cases for the following drugs: Levaquin, Yaz and Yasmin, and Transvaginal Mesh Patches. The link here indicates the drug cases we are no longer accepting so that we may focus our time and resources on victims who have been harmed by Levaquin, Yaz/Yasmin and the Transvaginal patches.
Fosamax, or Alendronate, is a medication that is taken by both men and women to treat osteoporosis, Paget's disease, and cancers that have metastasized to bone; it is manufactured and marketed by Merck, the same pharmaceutical company that manufactured and sold Vioxx.
Although Fosamax cannot cure or prevent any of these diseases, it is prescribed to delay their onset and effects. Fosamax inhibits cells that cause the deconstruction or reabsorption of bone tissue that occurs with osteoporosis, Paget's disease and cancer.
Fosamax is taken either in pill or fluid form on an empty stomach. Like other osteoporosis drugs, Fosamax can cause gastrointestinal complications, such as stomach-aches, nausea, vomiting, and constipation.
Fosamax has been prescribed frequently. In 2005, there were over 35 million prescriptions given to people suffering from osteoporosis, Paget's disease, or cancer. One of the problems with Fosamax is that it is currently linked to a serious bone complication, known as osteonecrosis.
Osteonecrosis, also known as "dead jaw," occurs when the cells within the bone become damaged and begin to breakdown. Osteonecrosis is a serious disease that must be treated as soon as possible. Symptoms of osteonecrosis include:
- Jaw Pain
- Swelling of the Jaw
- Infected Gums
- Loose Teeth
- Numb Feeling of Jaw
Attorneys have recently filed lawsuits against Merck for failing to warn physicians and Fosamax users of its potentially dangerous and painful complications and side effects including osteonecrosis. If you have been prescribed Fosamax and are now suffering from osteonecrosis or some of the symptoms of osteonecrosis described above, please contact a personal injury lawyer at James Esparza Law Firm of Salt Lake City, Utah. We represent clients from across the United States. Our product liability attorneys will evaluate your claim and help you recover compensation.
